Massage therapy involves manual manipulation of the soft tissues of the body through pressure, promoting relaxation and healing.
The three main effects imparted on the body include mechanical, physiological, and psychological.
Manual massage targets muscular spasms, trigger points, hypertonicity, etc. in the muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons, and fascia (skin) in order to relieve pain and stress.

Massage can play a integral role in treatment plans to alleviate pain resulting from sports injuries, TMJ (Temporomandibular joint disorder), arthritis, headaches / migraines, carpal tunnel syndrome, Fibromyalgia, whiplash, detoxification, stress management, proper muscular health / spinal function and various types of cancer and other internal disorders.
Massage therapy licensing in Illinois requiring 500 hours of class time and active participation in massage work at a credentialed massage therapy school. Massage therapists must then pass the National Board Exam for Massage Therapy and Bodywork.
